FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD!
By Pauline Sprott, 25 September 2012 –
Food Glorious Food is the topic for pupils from Long Preston Primary School near Skipton. Over two days this month the whole school visited Low Sizergh Farm and Growing Well staying late into the afternoon to watch the cows being milked. Despite the damp start to the day the children were lucky, enjoying some autumnal sunshine for a couple of hours whist they had a "real hands" experience of looking at where their food comes from. With calving in full swing at Low Sizergh Farm the children were able to see a calf being born, take in the milking parlour with and without cows in it, and then taste some of our lovely tasty salad leaves, cucumbers and tomatoes. Thanks to Alison, Michael and Kate for facilitating two busy days.
As we come to the end of our farm visits I am not sad to see the marquee coming down, its looking a bit battered after a very wet and windy season of educational visits. With our new health and well-being workshops being offered FREE TO SCHOOLS I am looking forward to keeping warm and dry and working with children in the classroom.
