Cumbrian mental health recovery charity Growing Well are offering 30 of their ‘Crop Share’ weekly veg boxes for free to low-income families and individuals in Mid-Copeland.
In an initiative made possible with the support of the Mid Copeland GDF Community Partnership, Growing Well will provide their veg boxes to households in the Mid Copeland area including Thornhill, Haile, Calderbridge, Ponsonby, Beckermet, Seascale and Gosforth.
Harvested weekly, each box will include a minimum of seven different delicious, seasonal, pesticide-free vegetables grown at Growing Well in Cumbria.
Hannah Wright, Manager at Growing Well West Cumbria says: “We are delighted to work with the Mid Copeland GDF Community Partnership to make this initiative possible.”
“We know there are families, couples and individuals living in the region who are on a low income and/or are struggling and would benefit from support with regular fresh vegetables.”
“Our fresh produce is ideal for making healthy, home-cooked meals and we’ll also include recipe ideas in each box so that recipients can explore making healthy new meals.”
The veg boxes will be delivered to recipients’ doors, or if they prefer they can collect from a nearby collection point.
Established in 2004, Growing Well support people to create their own mental health recovery goals and through horticultural activity, empower people to unearth new confidence, skills and purpose to recover on their own terms, in their own community.
Andy Pratt, Chair of the Mid Copeland GDF Community Partnership said: “We’re really pleased to be able to support such an important local project by awarding funding from Nuclear Waste Services’ Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) programme to help those living in the Mid Copeland area on a low income.
“Not only does Growing Well provide a lifeline for those who experience mental health challenges, it provides fresh, healthy local produce for the community.”
